The 2015 horror film Poltergeist is a remake of the 1982 classic about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces.

The press materials refer to the new version as an effort to  “contemporize” the original. Whatever…

In the 2015 version, a group of pissed-off apparitions do a number on a happy family’s suburban home, escalating their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive. It’s up to the family and a team of paranormal investigators to come together and rescue the young one before she disappears forever.

Directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House) from a screenplay by David Lindsay-Abaire, the film stars Sam Rockwell (The Way, Way Back), Rosemarie DeWitt (Kill the Messenger), Jared Harris (Pompeii) and Jane Adams (Restless).

The film received relatively tepid reviews from the critics, earning a 33% positive rating at Rotten Tomatoes based on 101 published reviews. It did, however, make a little noise at the box office, ringing up some $48 million domestically and nearly $100 million internationally.
