New Release: Insidious DVD and Blu-ray

InsidiousInsidious, another horror film from the creators of the Saw franchise, director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell, arrived on DVD and Blu-ray on July 12, 2011. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has priced the movie at $30.99 and $35.99, respectively.

The thriller stars Patrick Wilson (The Switch) and Rose Byrne (TV’s Damages) who’ve just moved into a new house and start hearing strange noises. Okay, doesn’t sound too original so far, but then one of their children falls into a mysterious coma and a woman (Lin Shaye, American Cowslip) tells them its not their house that’s haunted — it’s their son. Barbara Hershey (Black Swan) also stars as Wilson’s mother.

Despite the PG-13 rating, Insidious is reportedly mighty scary (watch a review from Movie Irv), getting its thrills not from blood and gore, but from suspense, lighting and sound — the kind of “things go bump in the night” movies that stay with us when we’re trying to sleep. The film scored well with critics and grossed $52 million in theaters.

Three featurettes are on both the DVD and Blu-ray:

  • “Horror 101: The Exclusive Seminar”
  • “On Set With Insidious
  • Insidious Entities”

The movie was made available for downoad the same day.
