New Release: The Frankenstein Syndrome DVD

The Frankenstein Syndrome movie scene

Something monstrous this way comes in The Frankenstein Syndrome.

MTI released the horror movie The Frankenstein Syndrome, a contemporary re-imagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein, on DVD on July 5, 2011, for a list price of $24.95.

Written, directed and produced by Sean Tretta (The Great American Snuff Film), the independent film focuses on beautiful stem-cell researcher Elizabeth Barnes (Tiffany Shepis, Bonnie and Clyde Vs. Dracula), who joins a secret research group in attempting to develop a stem-cell-based universal healing serum. Despite opposition, she quickly develops a serum that can bring the dead back to life — but with horrific results that involve lots of mayhem, murders and a good deal of blood.

A 2010 movie, The Frankenstein Syndrome also stars Louis Mandylor (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Scott Anthony Leet (Abandoned) and Ed Lauter (Magic).

The independent film made some noise last year, picking up awards at various horror film fests, including the Dark Carnival Film Festival and the Oklahoma Horror Film Festival.

We spoke to the always-fun Tiffany Shepis and she was very pumped about The Frankenstein Syndrome, describing it as “a great one” — possibly because writer/director/producer Tretta is her husband!

Here’s a list of the bonus features slated for the DVD:

  • commentary with Sean Tretta and Tiffany Shepis
  • alternate openings with commentary
  • alternate and deleted scenes with commentary
