Lola Versus movie scene

Greta Gerwig gets romantic and comedic in Lola Versus.

Greta Gerwig (Damsels in Distress), mumblecore maiden-turned-Hollywood star, stars in the offbeat 2012 romantic comedy film Lola Versus.

When 29-year-old Lola (Gerwig) is dumped by her fiancé Luke (Joel Kinnaman, Safe House) just three weeks before the wedding, she embarks on an emotional, year-long adventure of self-discovery filled with love and loss, not to mention a dose of hilarity and heartache. Guided (and often misguided) by the well-meaning advice of her close friends and eccentric parents, Lola’s chaotic journey en route to her 30th birthday proves that a single tumultuous year can yield the lessons of a lifetime.

Directed and co-written by Daryl Wein, the movie also features Zoe Lister-Jones (the film’s other co-writer), Hamish Linklater (The Power) , Bill Pullman (HBO’s Too Big Too Fail) and Debra Winger (The Sheltering Sky), an actress we’re happy to be seeing more of in recent years.

The R-rated Lola Versus opened for a limited run in U.S. theaters in June, 2012, ringing up $250,000 at the box office. Like audiences, critics weren’t all that enthused by LolaRotten Tomatoes gives the film a 5.3/10 rating based on 74 critics’ reviews.

Still, the increasingly mainstream Gerwig seems to have her followers…

The DVD contains a commentary by Wein and Lister-Jones, outtakes and a theatrical trailer. The Blu-ray edition contains those features along with the following ones:

● Deleted Scenes and Alternate Ending
● Greta Gerwig: Leading Lady
● The Filmmakers
● World Premiere
● In Character with Greta Gerwig
