Private Practice: Season 6Private Practice got out while the going was good. While it was still popular, the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off ended after its sixth season, wrapping up storylines and leaving viewers with the good feeling that the characters will go on just fine.

The medical TV show stars Kate Walsh (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Dr. Addison Montgomery, ex-wife of Grey’s Dr. Derek Shepherd, working in a Los Angeles office filled with other brilliant doctors trying to juggle work and life.

Also in the cast are Benjamin Bratt (La Mission), Taye Diggs (Equilibrium), Amy Brenneman (Mother and Child), KaDee Strickland (The Family That Preys), Paul Adelstein (TV’s Prison Break) and Tim Daly (TV’s The Sopranos), although Daly was off the show at the end of season five.

Private Practice: Season 6 DVD boxWalsh had announced that she would be leaving Private Practice after season six, but creator Shonda Rhimes said the decision to end the show then was because creatively, the series felt like it was coming to an end. While the characters will be missed, kudos to Rhimes and ABC for knowing when to close up shop and giving fans an ending they can be satisfied with.

The three-DVD Private Practice: The Complete Sixth and Final Season set contains these special features:

  • featurette “Saying Our Goodbyes” with the cast and crew discussing the final days of shooting and remembering their six years together
  • deleted scenes, offering a deeper look into the dram of the show
  • outtakes from the set of the emotional final season.
