New Release: Abandoned DVD and Blu-ray

On Aug. 24, 2010, Anchor Bay released the late Brittany Murphy’s (Across the Hall) final film, the psychological thriller Abandoned, on DVD and Blu-ray Disc for the suggested retail prices of $26.97 and $34.98, respectively. Actress Murphy died on Dec. 9.

The movie follows Mary Walsh (Murphy) as she delivers boyfriend Kevin (Dean Cain, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) to a hospital for a routine outpatient surgery. But when Mary returns to take him home, he is nowhere to be found. The hospital administrator (Mimi Rogers, Full Body Massage) can’t find any record of him, and a police search turns up nothing.

Increasingly frantic, Mary is taken to a staff psychiatrist, Dr. Bensley (director-turned-actor Peter Bogdanovich, TV’s The Sopranos), who pronounces her unstable. Now, she must not only find her missing boyfriend, but prove her own sanity. When a stranger informs Mary he knows of Kevin’s whereabouts, but demands a $10 million ransom, Mary realizes that to save herself and the man she loves, she must use any means necessary.

We haven’t seen this film yet, but we’re big fans of Brittany Murphy at Disc Dish, and if her performance rivals those that she gave in 8 Mile, Clueless, Sin City and Girl, Interrupted, then we’re interested in checking this one out, too.

Abandoned wasn’t released in theaters, so the DVD and Blu-ray were the movie’s debut.
