Coriolanus movie scene

Ralph Fiennes is out for blood in Coriolanus.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2)  makes his directorial debut in an acclaimed modern-day, thriller-styled film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s drama Coriolanus, in which he also stars in the title role.

Caius ‘Coriolanus’ Martius, a feared and revered Roman General, finds himself suddenly pitted against his own city and fellow citizens.  Rebelling against the power-hungry designs of his manipulative mother (Vanessa Redgrave, Letters to Juliet) and rejected by his own people, Coriolanus incites a riot that expels him from Rome.  The banished hero joins forces with his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius (Gerard Butler, Gamer) to exact his revenge — and determine his destiny.

Fiennes was nominated for a 2012 BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for the R-rated film, which also stars Jessica Chastain (The Debt) and Brian Cox (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).

Very positively received by critics and fans of The Bard, Coriolanus rang up some $250,000 at the domestic box office during its limited run in U.S. theaters in December 2011.

Special features on the Blu-ray and DVD include an audio commentary by Fiennes and a making-of featurette.
