New Release: The Rocky Horror Picture Show Blu-ray

The Rocky Horror Picture Show movie scene with Tim CurryThe sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania, in high-definition! British musical comedy/rock opera The Rocky Horror Picture Show debut on Blu-ray on Oct. 19, 2010, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Starring Tim Curry (Charlie’s Angels) as the “sweet transvestite,” Susan Sarandon (Bull Durham) and rocker Meat Loaf, the movie is the longest-running theatrical release in film history, still playing in select theaters for special showings. Selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant,” the 1975 musical is known for such songs as “The Time Warp” and its many quotable lines, including, “Dammit, Janet.”

The film tells the story of Brad and Janet (Barry Bostwick and Sarandon), a couple who get lost one cold, rainy night, and take refuge in the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, just as he is about to unveil his greatest creation.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray has restored picture from a new master created from the original camera negatives. It was priced at $34.99, and includes these special features:

The Blu-ray box will contains a 24-page book featuring photography from Mick Rock, known for his iconic shots of rock and roll artists. He was the chief photographer on the film.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Blu-ray release was part of Fox’s year-long 75th birthday celebration, during which the studio debuted a number of its classic movies on high-definition, including The Sound of Music: 45th Anniversary Edition, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, The Last of the Mohicans and the Alien Anthology.
