New Release: Dead Awake Blu-ray and DVD

Dead Awake movie scene

Amy Smart and Ben Marten dream a little dream — or do they? — in Dead Awake.

Dead Awake, a mystery romance fantasy hybrid kind of an independent movie (whew!), premiered on DVD and Blu-ray on March 29, 2011, courtesy of First Look.

The film stars Nick Stahl (Burning Palms) as Dylan, a young man working at a funeral parlor who’s trying to unravel the mystery behind a tragic car accident that shattered his life 10 years earlier.

After working at a wake where many friends of the deceased come to pay their respects, Dylan is inspired to fake his own death and see who will show up at the wake. Attending his send-off is his former girlfriend, Natalie (Amy Smart, Road Trip) — now engaged to Steve (Ben Marten, American Virgin) — as well as a mysterious drug addict named Charlie (Rose McGowan, Jawbreaker) whom he has never met before.

Some kind of fantastical forces begin to make themselves known, transforming the lives and fates of the three characters and slowly revealing answers to the decade-old mystery.

Directed by Omar Naim (The Final Cut), Dead Awake (also known as Dylan’s Wake) definitely has us intrigued.

Oh, and don’t confuse this one with the 2001 thriller of the same name starring Stephen Baldwin!

No bonus features are on the DVD or Blu-ray, each of which carries a list price of $24.98.
