New Release: Adrift DVD

AdriftVincent Cassel, who we loved in Oscar winner Black Swan — not to mention as the voice of Monsieur Hood in the original Shrek — was released on DVD on June 14, 2011, in the foreign film Adrift, distributed by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Directed by Brazilian filmmaker Heitor Dhalia, the 1980s-set drama looks at infidelity and how it affects a teenage girl. New actress Laura Neiva plays 14-year-old Filipa, who’s undergoing her sexual awakening. But while her family is vacationing on the idyllic southeast coast of Brazil, Filipa discovers that her father (Cassel) is cheating on her mother with a young American woman (Camilla Belle of From Prada to Nada). But that’s just the first of her family’s dark secrets that she uncovers.

The movie didn’t play in theaters in the U.S., but it was released overseas as well as shown in such film festivals as Cannes, London, Glasgow and Belfast.

The DVD was priced at $29.98, and the movie is in Brazilian with English subtitles.

We haven’t seen the film, but judging by the premise and the trailer (see below), Adrift is on our to-watch list. What do you think?
