Grandview, U.S.A. movie scene

C. Thomas Howell (l.), Jamie Lee Curtis and Patrick Swayze take a trip to Grandview, U.S.A.

It took a while for the 1984 coming-of-age comedy-romance movie Grandview, U.S.A. to make its DVD debut. The film, starring C. Thomas Howell (Restitution), Jamie Lee Curtis (You Again) and Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing), is a cult favorite that’s remembered for the “raciness” of the love triangle at its center and a very sexy Ms. Curtis.

The movie looks at life in the small town of Grandview, Ill., starting with Tim Pearson (Howell), a soon-to-be-high-school-graduate who wants to go to Florida to study oceanography. Before getting ready to kick off his dream, Tim meets Michelle “Mike” Cody (Curtis), the woman who runs the local “Demolition Derby.” The teen finds himself very attracted to Mike—as is Ernie “Slam” Webster (Swayze), one of the drivers in the derby whose wife is cheating on him. Trouble is, Tim and “Slam” are quickly becoming good friends! And so, the triangle begins to form…

Directed by Randall Kleiser (Grease) and co-starring such rising talents of the day as Jennifer Jason Leigh (Last Exit to Brooklyn) and John Cusack (Hot Tub Time Machine), Grandview, U.S.A. features a soundtrack of period music by such artists as Air Supply, Jack Mack and the Heart Attack and Eddie & the Tide.

No bonus features are on the DVD.
