Pat O’Connor (Cal) directs the wonderful Simon Gray’s 1987 film adaptation of J.L. Carr’s touching novel, A Month in the Country.
The beautiful tale of a pair of emotionally wounded World War I veterans (The King’s Speech‘s Colin Firth and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit‘s Kenneth Branagh in his film début) who find some respite in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside and in their supportive friendship. As they work, respectively, on the restoration of an ancient church mural and the possible unearthing of an archeological treasure, they encounter, also, the local vicar’s young wife (The Handmaid’s Tale’s Natasha Richardson); between them, this trio reflects the many faces of love and longing.
The drama features a score by Howard Blake in the style of early 20th-century music, available on this Twilight Time release as an isolated track.
As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be sure to keep an eye Twilight Time distributor Screen Archives’s for the announcement of the prebook date (usually 2-3 weeks before the title’s street date) and get ready to reserve!
