Blu-ray Release: Hour of the Gun

Blu-ray Release Date: Sept. 19, 2017
Price: Blu-ray $29.95
Studio: Twilight Time

Director John Sturges (The Great Escape) and screenwriter Edward Anhalt (Becket) bring us a reworking of the Wyatt Earp/Doc Holliday legend in Hour of the Gun (1967), a sort of sequel to Sturges’ earlier Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957).

Here, the director looks at the post-Gunfight struggle for political control of Tombstone, with a marvelous trio of antagonists: James Garner (Grand Prix) as Earp, Jason Robards (Long Day’s Journey into Night) as Holliday, and the sublime Robert Ryan (Caught) as Ike Clanton. This Western is shot by Lucien Ballard (just a couple of years from The Wild Bunch), and highlighted by a superb score from the inimitable Jerry Goldsmith.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray disc include an isolated music and effects track and an original theatrical trailer.

As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be sure to head over to the Twilight Time site or that of distributor Screen Archives NOW so you can put in your order!
