Okay, give Lapsis a minute as it’s a cool-sounding new sci-fi drama about a parallel near-future, quantum computing and the questionable utopian promises of big tech.

Madeline Wise in Lapsis

In an alternate present-day New York, the quantum computing revolution has begun and investors are lining their pockets in the market. Building the network, though, requires miles of cables to be laid across rough terrain by unprotected gig workers. Queens delivery man Ray Tincelli (Dean Imperial) is skeptical of new technology, and the buy-in to start “cabling” is steep. So when he scores a shady permit, he believes his fortunes have finally changed. What he doesn’t expect is to be pulled into a conspiracy involving hostile cablers, corporate greed, and the mysterious “Lapsis” who may have previously owned his medallion…

Written and directed by Noah Hutton (Deep Time, In Silico), the critically well-received Lapsis has garnered acclaim on the festival circuit, including being nominated for Best First Screenplay at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards.
