Universal Studios Home Entertainment released Zac Efron-starring drama Charlie St. Cloud on DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 9, 2010, in a quick 10-week turnaround after the movie’s release in theaters. Purchases of the Blu-ray will be able to stream one of two bonus movies via BD-Live Internet access.
Based on the novel by Ben Sherwood, Charlie St. Cloud stars Efron as a young man trying to overcome his grief from the death of his younger brother. Magically, he’s able to play catch and talk with the ghost of his brother each night, but he’s torn between that and moving on with a newfound love, played by Amanda Crew. Donal Logue, Ray Liotta, Kim Basinger and newcomer Charlie Tahen round out the cast.
Released in theaters on July 30, the drama grossed $30 million.
Both the DVD and Blu-ray version of Charlie St. Cloud include these special features:
- deleted scenes
- “On Location With Zac Efron,” as the actor takes viewers on a ride in Vancouver
- “Zac Efron, Leading Man” conversation with director Burr Steers about his vision for the movie and how Efron fit in
- “The In-Between World” featurette with psychics, mediums and parapsychologists talking about what happens when we die
- and commentary with Steers.
The Blu-ray also offers these exclusive special features:
- My Scenes bookmark feature
- and Pocket Blu feature to allow viewers to use their smart phone, iPod or iPad as a remote control, show a video timeline, unlock bonus material and enter data into a Blu-ray player via the device’s keyboard.
