Meet the Parents

Tieing into the theatrical bow of Little Fockers, Universal Studios Home Entertainment debuted the first two movies in the franchise, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, on Blu-ray on Nov. 30, 2010.

The PG-13 comedy series stars Robert De Niro (Stardust) and Ben Stiller (Greenberg) as father and son-in-law with lots of relationship issues. In 2000’s Meet the Parents, Stiller, a nurse, meets the parents of his girlfriend (Teri Polo of TV’s The West Wing) on the eve of her sister’s wedding. Although the mother (Blythe Danner of TV’s Will & Grace) is nice enough, Stiller quickly learns that the father (De Niro), a former CIA agent, is much less trusting.

In the 2004 follow-up Meet the Fockers, its Stiller and Polo’s time to get married, and they take Danner and De Niro to meet Stiller’s parents, free wheeling hippies Dustin Hoffman (Last Chance Harvey) and Barbra Streisand (The Prince of Tides).

Both movies are directed by Jay Roach (Mystery, Alaska).

Little Fockers continues the family story with Stiller and Polo as new parents. Owen Wilson (Marmaduke) also stars in the series.

This was not the movies’ high-definition debut, as both films were released on HD DVD before that format lost the high-def format war.
