New Release: Nanny McPhee Returns DVD and Blu-ray

Academy Award winner Emma Thompson (An Education) reprises her role as England’s most magical nanny in family movie Nanny McPhee Returns, which Universal Studios Home Entertainment released on Blu-ray and DVD on Dec. 14, 2010.

The inevitable follow-up to the popular 2005 film Nanny McPhee (which Universal released on Blu-ray in August 2010, the week the sequel hit theaters), Nanny McPhee Returns finds the enchanted governess appearing at the farmhouse door of a busy young mother (Maggie Gyllenhaal of Crazy Heart), who’s doing her best to care for her three children as well their two spoiled cousins who are visiting from the city. Relying on everything from a flying motorcycle and a statue that comes to life, to a tree-climbing piglet and an elephant that turns up in the oddest places, Nanny McPhee uses her magic to show the children five valuable lessons, the most important of which is learning how to get along.

Also in the cast are Ralph Fiennes (Red Dragon), Ewan McGregor (The Ghost Writer), Maggie Smith (Harry Potter movies) and Rhys Ifans (Greenberg).

The PG-rated movie grossed $28 million at the domestic box office, a considerable amount less than its predecessor, which took in $48 million during its theatrical run.
