New Release: Dirty Mary Crazy Larry/Race With the Devil Double-Feature DVD

Shout! Factory shifted into high gear with the double bill of two of the most souped-up drive-in movie favorites out of the 1970s: Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (1974) and Race With the Devil (1975) , both starring Peter Fonda (Easy Rider). The Dirty Mary Crazy Larry/Race With the Devil Double-Feature was released on DVD on April 12, 2011, for a suggested retail price of $14.93.

Action film Dirty Mary Crazy Larry is essentially a feature-length getaway car chase, ignited when Fonda and his buddy take to the highway after knocking off a supermarket. Picking up sexy Susan George (Straw Dogs) along the way and dodging obsessed lawman at every junction, the film features high-speed pursuits the from start to finish, explosively culminating in one of the great B-movie endings of the decade.

Cashing in on the low-budget devil movie craze that was ignited by 1973’s The Exorcist, Race With the Devil finds Fonda, his pal Warren Oates (The Wild Bunch) and their wives (Loretta Swit and Lara Parker) enjoying a vacation in their RV until they bump into a group of Satan worshippers who jump into their own cars to chase the down the tourists. The horror movie has some effectively creepy moments in between the highway hijinks, which include a lot dangerous-looking stunt driving. And the film has a perfect wrap-up, just like Dirty Mary.

Anchor Bay/Starz released DVD editions of Dirty Mary Crazy Larry and Race With the Devil in 2005 packed with commentaries, featurettes and interviews.
