An unrated version of the Channing Tatum (The Dilemma) starring movie The Eagle was released on DVD and Blu-ray as well as the version shown in theaters on June 21, 2011, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The movie also was made available for digital download and on-demand on the same day.
The Roman, sword-and-sandal action adventure film about a quest to restore the reputation of an army commander and father and retrieve a missing legion’s golden eagle emblem also stars Jamie Bell (Billy Elliott), Donald Sutherland (The Mechanic) and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes) and was directed by Kevin Macdonald (State of Play). Despite the strong cast, the film pulled in only $19.5 million in wide release in theaters.
All home entertainment formats — DVD, Blu-ray, digital download and video-on-demand — include both the PG-13-rated theatrical version and unrated version of the film. Plus, the DVD and Blu-ray offer an exclusive alternate ending.
Here are the rest of the special features scheduled for the Blu-ray and DVD releases:
- deleted scenes
- commentary by director Macdonald
- and the featurette “The Eagle: The Making of a Roman Epic,” with Macdonald, Tatum and Bell.
The Blu-ray disc also has Universal’s standard Blu-ray features:
- BD-Live access
- PocketBlu app to allow a smartphone to interact with the Blu-ray player
- and UHear, making sure viewers never miss any dialog.
