New Release: Season of the Witch DVD and Blu-ray

Season of the WitchAction adventure movie, Season of the Witch, starring Nicolas Cage (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), was released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 28, 2011, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Set in the 14th century, the fantasy film tells the story of a group of knights who are assigned to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey where a ritual will be performed in hopes of ending the black plague. Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Cronos) and Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings) also star.

Rated PG-13, the film was not received well in theaters. Despite a wide theatrical release, Season of the Witch grossed only $24.8 million and got a 6% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch!

The DVD is priced at $29.99 and Blu-ray at $39.99.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray include these special features:

  • alternate ending that Fox calls “shocking”
  • deleted scenes
  • behind-the-scenes featurettes
  • and, on Blu-ray only, commentaries.
