Why Stop Now movie scene

Jesse Eisenberg and Melissa Leo go for a drive in Why Stop Now.

A simple trip to a piano audition becomes a life-changing adventure in the 2012 comedy-drama film Why Stop Now starring Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) as a mother and son enduring a very bad day.

Piano prodigy Eli Bloom (Eisenberg) is on his way to the most important audition of his life, but first he has to drop off his mother Penny (Leo) at a drug rehab center. There’s just one little complication: Since Penny’s not quite high enough and has to test positive to be admitted, mother and son end up at the door of her dealer Sprinkles (Tracy Morgan, The Son of No One) in search of one last score. But because Penny’s in debt and Sprinkles is low on product, Eli unwittingly must play negotiator as the unlikely team hits the streets.

Written and directed by Phil Dorling and Ron Nyswaner, the film also stars Isiah Whitlock Jr. (Red Hook Summer), Emma Rayne Lyle (I Don’t Know How She Does It) and Stephanie March (Made in Jersey).

The R-rated film, which contains adult language and, not surprisingly, drug content, premiered as a video on demand title in July, 2012.
