The good people of Twilight Time continue their celebration of the films of special effect maestro Ray Harryhausen (Sinbad and The Eye of the Tiger) with the Blu-ray debut of the 1964 science fiction fantasy First Men in the Moon.

A Selenite plots beneath the lunar surface in First Men in the Moon.

A Selenite plots beneath the lunar surface in First Men in the Moon.

The movie posits a modern-day U.N. lunar mission which discovers—lo and behold!—that a motley little 19th-century human crew has beaten them to it. An extended flashback reveals that Edward Judd, Martha Hyer, and the inimitable Lionel Jeffries were the intrepid explorers, and that they encountered everything from a giant lunar centipede to some particularly nasty oversize insectoid creatures.

Based on H.G. Wells’ novel, First Men in the Moon was directed by Nathan Juran, who also helmed such Harryhausen extravaganzas as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and 20 Million Miles to Earth.

As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be prepared to preorder the title from distributor Screen Archives when it prebooks towards the end of February.
