Oscar and Grammy Award winner and vocal powerhouse Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) stars as the legendary singer Aretha Franklin in the musical-filled biographical drama Respect.

Following the rise of Aretha’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, the film offers a look at the journey of the music icon’s path to find her voice.

The film—which is filled with 17 classic Aretha Franklin songs—is  directed by Liesl Tommy from a screenplay written by Tracey Scott Wilson and a story by Academy Award winner Callie Khouri of Thelma & Louise fame.
