Rock of Ages1980s music fans, be prepared to watch this film on your feet. Rock of Ages features a rocking soundtrack, with plenty of stars too.

Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman and more. They’re all in for the fun.

The movie’s story revolves around young lovers Sherrie Christian — get it? two rocks songs in one —  (Julianne Hough, Footloose) and Drew Boley (Diego Boneta, TV’s Pretty Little Liars), who have come to Los Angeles to pursue their love of music but don’t have the guts to push themselves in front of the crowd. They both work at a failing rock bar, which Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin, It’s Complicated) and Lonny (Russell Brand, Get Him to the Greek) are trying to keep afloat. Dupree seeks help from aging rock Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol), who’s got agent Paul Gill (Paul Giamatti, Barney’s Version) digging into his money, and journalist Constance Sack (Malin Akerman, Couples Retreat) digging into his soul. Meanwhile, Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Rebound) plays politician Patricia Whitmore, who wants to shut down rock ‘n’ roll once and for all.

Bryan Cranston (TV’s Breaking Bad) and singer Mary J. Blige also star in the film, which was directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray).

That big list of name actors couldn’t help the movie at the box office, however. Rock of Ages grossed a low $38.5 million in theaters, rolling out with mixed reviews from critics nad moviegoers. (This reviewer admits to liking it. Great music, fun interpretations, and lots of camp.)

On DVD and Blu-ray, the movie has an extended edition with, says Warner, “More Songs, More Dancing, More Laughs.”

The Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack also comes with plenty of special features:

  • “Rock of Ages: Legends of the Sunset Strip”
  • “The Stories We Sing”
  • “Defining a Decade”
    • “The 80s Look”
    • “It’s All About the Moves”
    • “Stripping Miami”
    • “The Tease”
    • “If You Build It, They Will Rock It”
    • “Connection to the Music”
    • “So It All Started In a Bar”
  • “Any Way You Want It”
  • “Visit Florida”
  • Selected songs.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray also offer Ultraviolet instant streaming of the movie, redeemable through Oct. 9, 2014.
