A Idiot Abroad scene

Karl Pilkington gets the point when he travels to Egypt in An Idiot Abroad.

Ricky Gervais (Spy Kids 4) and Stephen Merchant (Cemetery Junction), co-creators of The Office and Extras, are the minds behind the 2010 British comedy-travel television series An Idiot Abroad.

Co-stars Gervais and Merchant send their friend Karl Pilkington (The Ricky Gervais Show) on a picturesque journey around the globe … against his will.

Karl thinks he’s visiting the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, but along the way, the “Little Englander” must endure camel rides, jungle treks, tribal customs and local oddballs while dining on toads and testicles and searching for a clean bathroom. Here’s the question: Will this be the trip of a lifetime, or the vacation from hell? More important is the question of whether Karl will know the difference!

An Idiot Abroad premiered on BBC in the fall of 2010 to much critical love. The TV show was received with equal enthusiasm in the U.S. upon its broadcast on the Science Channel in 2011.

The DVD contains season one’s eight episodes as well as the following bonus features:

  • the preview show
  • deleted scenes
  • photo gallery

A second season of An Idiot Abroad is televised in the U.S. in early 2012.
