WatchmenWarner has packaged together yet another version of Zack Snyder’s (Sucker Punch) fantasy movie Watchmen.

Introduced in theaters in 2009, the film is already available on DVD, Blu-ray and Instant Video; in a Director’s Cut on DVD, Blu-ray and Instant Video; an Ultimate Cut on DVD and Blu-ray; and even in a Triple-Feature Blu-ray with other comic book movies V for Vendetta and Constantine.

There’s also the Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic on DVD and Blu-ray; companion animation Watchmen: Takes of the Black Freighter & Under the Hood on DVD, Blu-ray and Instant Video; and a Limited Edition Watchmen Director’s Cut with Rorschach Case on DVD and Blu-ray or with Glow in the Dark Dr. Manhattan Head Case on Blu-ray.

Phew!

So what does the Watchmen Collector’s Edition have that these others don’t?

  • Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut, which weaves Tales of the Black Freighter into the Director’s Cut
  • more than two hours of special features
  • Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comics

Plus:

  • a DVD with the original theatrical cut of the film
  • the first DC Comics hardcover edition of the graphic novel that inspired the movie
  • and collectible lenticular packaging.

The set also offers a downloadable digital copy and instant streaming of the film through UltraViolet.

Worth the bucks? That depends on how much of a fan you are and how many of the previous versions are already in your collection.

If you missed Watchmen, here’s the lowdown.

The R-rated film, which grossed $107.5 million in theaters, is set in an alternate 1985 when costumed vigilantes have been stopped by the government. But after the masked Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, Dark Shadows) is investigated for a brutal murder, the heroes reunite to prevent their own destruction.

Among the heroes, both good and bad, are Silk Spectre (Carla Gugino, Every Day), Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson, Young Adult), Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, TV’s Magic City), Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup, Almost Famous) and Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman, Wanderlust).
