Blu-ray Release: The Long, Hot Summer

Blu-ray Release Date: Aug. 15, 2017
Price: Blu-ray $29.95
Studio: Twilight Time

The team of director Martin Ritt (The Front) and writers Irving Ravetch and Harriet Frank Jr. adapt a pair of William Faulkner narratives in the 1958 drama The Long, Hot Summer.

Paul Newman (Hombre) gives perhaps his most Newmanian performance as a crafty drifter who drops like a bomb into the wealthy Varner family, already a stewpot of lust, rivalry, and dysfunction. Orson Welles (The Stranger) is the manipulative paterfamilias; Joanne Woodward (WUSA) his intelligent, wary daughter; Anthony Franciosa his weakling son; Angela Lansbury (The Manchurian Candidate) his long-suffering mistress; and Lee Remick (Anatomy of a Murder) his sexed-up daughter-in-law. This seductive cocktail is handsomely scored by the great Alex North.

Special features on this Twilight Time release include the following:

-Isolated Music Track
-Hollywood Backstories: The Long, Hot Summer
-Fox Movietone Newsreel
