New Release: Caprica 1.5 DVD

scene from TV show CapricaScience-fiction TV show Caprica, a spin-off of the popular Battlestar Galactica, returned to DVD on Dec. 21, 2010, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

The series, which aired on SyFy, is a pre-quel of Battlestar Galactica, set 50 years before the events of that hit show.

In Caprica, Eric Stoltz (Pulp Fiction) plays an ambitious scientist who’s trying to make a breakthrough in artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, terrorists are threatening peace on the planet Caprica, and Stoltz’s daughter is killed in a bombing, but instead of dieing, she lives on in a virtual world.

Caprica 1.5 DVD boxEsai Morales (TV’s Jericho) plays Joseph Adama, whose daughter also died and now lives virtually. Adama will later lead battles against the robotic Cylons in Battlestar Galactica.

The three-disc Caprica 1.5 DVD includes the entire first season of the TV drama with Dolby 5.1 surround sound

Caprica has been on DVD before. The mini-series that was the TV show’s pilot was released in 2009 and the first episodes of season one were released earlier this year. The show also is available on video-on-demand.
