News: First Cars, then Planes from Disney

With Cars 2, the sequel to Pixar’s successful 2006 animated movie, arriving in theaters on June 24, Walt Disney Studios is making a spin-off about another kind of vehicle: Planes.

Planned as a DVD and Blu-ray premiere movie, Planes will be a comedy action adventure about the fastest air racers around. The film will center around Dusty, a small-town dreamer who longs to enter the around-the-world air race — but he has a fear of heights.

The CG-animated film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in Spring 2013.

For the animation, Pixar is handing the work to fellow Disney division DisneyToon Studios.

Pixar and Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter said in a statement: “The team at DisneyToon Studios has done such an amazing job creating a heartfelt story filled with great comedy, adventure and emotion.”

What do you think? Will Planes be as good as Cars?
