News: Disney's The Fox and the Hound coming to Blu-ray

The Fox and the Hound movie scene

The original The Fox and the Hound

As usual, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has teased an upcoming Blu-ray release in a current one. In the liner notes of the studio’s Bambi Diamond Edition, which was released on Blu-ray today, Disney has an ad for The Fox and the Hound on Blu-ray.

According to the ad, the 1981 animated film will be released in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack (one Blu-ray disc, two DVDs) in the fall. But it’ll be a double combo pack, as The Fox and the Hound 30th Anniversary Edition will come with The Fox and the Hound II, the DVD premiere animated movie released in 2006.

In the original movie, a young fox named Tod (voiced by Keith Coogan and Mickey Rooney of Night at the Museum) is taken in by an old woman after his mother is killed by a hunter (sound familiar, Bambi?). The fox makes friends with Copper (voiced by Corey Feldman of Stand By Me and Kurt Russell of Death Proof), a hound dog puppy. As they grow older, their friendship is threatened because Copper is a hunting dog and Tod is his usual prey.

In the sequel, the young Tod and Copper have more adventures, while their friendship is tested. The movie features the voices of Reba McEntire (Tremors), Vicki Lawrence (TV’s Hannah Montana), Jeff Foxworthy (Racing Stripes) and the late Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing).
