New Release: Disney's Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray 3D

Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray 3D boxLooks like Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is embracing the idea of bringing its classic animated movies out on Blu-ray 3D. Although we don’t have official notice from the studio, Amazon has made The Lion King available for pre-order on Blu-ray and now Beauty and the Beast in a Diamond Edition set.

Beauty and the Beast was just released on Blu-ray last October. According to Amazon, the new set will be a five-disc combo including Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and a downloadable digital copy.

Amazon doesn’t have any special features listed for the set, but we’re guessing they’ll be the same as on last year’s Blu-ray, which included a documentary and the film’s production, deleted scenes and featurettes on the music and Broadway show, among others.

Disney released Bambi as a Diamond Edition in March, but it had Blu-ray and DVD only, not Blu-ray 3D.

The studio did release its latest animated film, Tangled, on Blu-ray 3D the same day the movie first hit DVD and regular Blu-ray.

With two Academy Awards, for Best Original Score and Best Song with “Beauty and the Beast,” the animated romance movie is one of Disney’s premiere classic films.
