The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption movie scene

Victor Webster checks out the team in Scorpion King 3.

A DVD premiere, the action-adventure film The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption is an entry in the ever-popular and seemingly immortal franchise that  spawned The Mummy and The Scorpion King movies.

The film revolves around ancient Egypt’s Mathayus (Victor Webster, Burning Palms), who was last seen celebrating a triumphant rise to power in 2008’s The Scorpion King: Rise of the Warrior. Since then, things have taken a turn for the worse: Mathayus’ kingdom has fallen and he has lost his queen to plague. Now an assassin for hire, he must defend a kingdom from an evil tyrant (Billy Zane, Magic Man) and his ghost warriors to win back the power and glory he once knew, along with the hand of a slinky princess (Krystal Vee, The Lazarus Papers).

Directed by Roel Reine (Death Race 2), The Scorpion King 3 also stars Ron Perlman (TV’s Sons of Anarchy), Temuera Morrison (Couples Retreat), WWE champion Dave Bautista (Wrong Side of Town) and UFC star Kimbo Slice.

Oh, and for those of you who are trying to keep track of the chronology of the Mummy/Scorpion King movies, here’s what we’ve got: The Scorpion King 3 is a sequel to a prequel to a prequel of a sequel of a remake. That is, it’s the sequel to The Scorpion King: Rise of the Warrior, which is a prequel to The Scorpion King, which is a prequel to The Mummy Returns, which is a sequel to The Mummy, which is a remake of Universal’s original 1932 film The Mummy. Sorted.

Here’s a list of bonus features on the DVD and Blu-ray:

  • deleted scenes montage set to the film’s score
  • “Swords and Scorpions: A Making of” exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how this action film was brought to life, filled with cast and crew interviews.
  • “Preparing for Battle” up close and personal with undefeated black belt champion Victor Webster as he transforms himself into an action hero
  • feature commentary with director Roel Reine
  • deleted/extended scenes
