Studio: Film Detective

Two friends explore an abandoned nexus of mystery and secrets in the classic 1947 film noir The Red House.

TheRedhouse1_optBased on the popular 1943 novel, The Red House stars Edward G. Robinson (The Stranger), Lon McCallister (The Big Cat), Judith Anderson (Diary of a Chambermaid), Rory Calhoun (How to Marry a Millionaire), Allene Roberts (The Hoodlum) and Julie London (TV’s Emergency!).

Meg (Roberts) lives with her adoptive parents, Pete (Robinson) and Ellen Morgan (Anderson). When Nath (McCallister), a classmate of Meg’s, comes to help on their farm, Pete repeatedly tells Meg and Nath to stay out of the surrounding woods. Out of curiosity, they disobey, and Pete is irate, subsequently hiring Teller (Calhoun) to guard the woods. As Pete’s rage devolves into madness, the kids start to discover the dark secrets that are buried in the nearby land.

Featuring a memorably eerie score by the great Miklós Rózsa, the movie, in its latest Blu-ray incarnation, is transferred from 35mm archival film elements.
