Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment released its 50th full-length animated film, Tangled, on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on March 29, 2011.
The PG-rated family film, a new take on the Rapunzel fairy tale, features the voices of Mandy Moore (License to Wed) as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi (TV’s Chuck) as a bandit who scales the tower where Rapunzel is being held and becomes her captive. She strikes a deal with the thief that she’ll let him go if he acts as her guide to travel to the place were floating lights come from, which she has seen every year on her birthday.
The movie, which has grossed $176 million in theaters so far, also stars the voices of Ron Perlman (Cronos), Jeffrey Tambor (The Larry Sanders Show) and Brad Garrett (TV’s Everybody Loves Raymond). Tangled was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards but didn’t take home a statue.

On the DVD:
- two original storybook openings described by co-directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno
- and 50th Animated Countdown, a video montage celebrating Tangled as Disney’s 50th full-length animated movie.
On the Blu-ray/DVD combo and the Blu-ray 3D pack, everything on the DVD, plus:
- three deleted scenes with introduction by the co-directors: “The Jaunty Moose,” “Chemistry Develops” and “Vigor The Visionary”
- “Untangled: The Making of a Fairy Tale” featurette with Moore and Levi taking viewers on a behind-the-scenes tour of the film’s production
- two extended songs with info from the co-directors: “When Will Me Life Begin” and “Mother Knows Best”
- and nine theatrical teasers.
