A grieving father revisits his dark past to avenge his son’s death in the 2014 film noir-styled thriller Viktor, starring Gérard Depardieu (Potiche) and Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery).

Viktor1_optIn the film, Viktor (Depardieu) – who has just completed a seven-year sentence for an art heist in his native France – is riddled by guilt over the ruthless murder of his son three months earlier in Moscow. Vengefully obsessed with unraveling the mystery of his death, Viktor returns to the city, where he enlists the help of his long-time love and criminal partner, club owner Alexandra (Hurley) and his lifelong friend, ballet choreographer Souliman (Eli Danker, My Spy). And so the game of Russian cat-and-mouse begins…

Directed by Phillipe Martinez, this Liam Neeson-styled revenge film was being played up as “the return of Elizabeth Hurley,” when it was released to 10 screens in October. But with virtually no promotion—and a dearth of Hurley fans, I suppose—the unrated thriller grossed a humiliating $623 and was pulled after four days, That means that something like 77 people saw the film. And don’t even ask what the critics had to say…. Ouch. It was Hurley’s first movie to be shown on U.S. screens in more than decade since 2002’s Serving Sara.

Regardless, we like Hurley’s smile, along with Depardieu’s ever-expanding tummy. So we’re gonna give this one a try…!
